Passing Clouds...

Passing Clouds, Bendigo

Winemakers Graeme Leith and Sue McKinnon have a superb reputation in Victoria for producing wonderful wines. They started planting their vines in 1974 at Kingover, 60 kms northwest of Bendigo. Sheltered by the hills of Ironbark Forest, the valley offers an ideal growing climate for premium red wine. Low rainfall and no irrigation combined with well-drained deep soil, produce small intensely flavoured berries with a richly coloured juice. Passing Clouds is a small, hands on operation using traditional winemaking techniques.

"After picking by hand the juice is fermented in open stainless steel vats, hand plunged and then matured for 12 months in oak puncheons before estate bottling."

Pinot Noir 2004

The fruit for this wine was carefully selected by Graeme from a vineyard in Yarra valley, the cool climate hilly haven north east of Melbourne. The fruit expresses itself through the wine so simply and does exactly what Pinot noir should do on the palate: it makes the mouth tingle and sparkle.

" Made at Passing Clouds from fruit grown for us at Coldstream in the Yarra Valley by the McKernans. A delightfully vibrant Pinot Noir, crystal clear with a lively bouquet and flavours of Morello cherry and strawberry. Showing well balanced integration of oak and spiciness, this wine has a lovely mouthfeel and satisfying finish"
Winemakers, Graeme Leith and Susie McDonald

Alc 11.5% vol

Price: £14.95

Mr Whirly says

“The wine is pure strawberry juice…..makes the mouth tingle and sparkle. Perfect with duck, gammon or pigeon. Serve slightly chilled and allow to breath for 10 minutes if possible since this wine is so, so delicate.”

“This is the undoubtedly the best Pinot Noir I have tasted from Australia” Chris Chown, The Proprietor, Plas Bodegroes

A New vintage (2004) of the wonderful Graeme’s blend, one of the first wines I featured here in the UK and a complete winner with the on-trade wine scene, will arrive here in September 2008.
The new vintage of the Passing Clouds Pinot Noir 2005 will be here early in the spring of 2009.
